I’ve been asked if I have any ideas on how to make the ketogenic lifestyle a family thing. A mom or a dad might realize the benefits, but how can they convince the rest of the family. Here are three ways.
- Parents need to go “all in”
- Get rid of ALL sugar, fruit juice, soda, sweets, etc.
- Take the lead and show them what you’ve accomplished
It’s no secret that the decisions that the parents make affect the whole family. If you have decided that you want to live the healthy ketogenic lifestyle, then you have to be “all in”, no halfsies. That means sticking to the plan and not caving if things get inconvenient, which they very well might from time to time. That means, possibly, planning meals, changing grocery purchases, and making lunches for kids or spouses that are high in fats and very low in carbs. And sticking with it, no matter what. If you get complaints, look for compromises. If someone doesn’t like a particular food or meal, work to adjust or substitute for something equally ketogenic.
(Sidenote: Most men won’t have to be convinced to eat a ketogenic diet. Fat and meat in abundance…yes, please.)
Many people balk at this, but honestly, there is no better starting point. Purge your house of the bad carbs and you won’t be eating them. Sure, you run the risk of kids complaining, but you’re the parent; you buy the food. If you don’t buy the bad food, you won’t eat the bad food. If your kids are off the bad food (and eating a high fat diet), they will, absolutely, get over it. And, besides, you are doing the best thing for them. A ketogenic lifestyle is extremely healthy, and sugar is linked to dozens of chronic illnesses. These things are KILLING your kids. Getting rid of them is a solid first step.
Set the example for the rest of the family. Commit to the ketogenic lifestyle and let the rest of the family see how it has changed you for the better, how it has improved your health and mental focus. Your family will notice, and it will make them more susceptible to making the change.
So there you go, that’s four easy ways you can get your family into the ketogenic lifestyle.
