It makes me sad when I see friends and loved ones trying yet another gimmick or fad to try to lose weight. I have been there, done that so many times over the years and nothing ever worked. Sure, I would lose a few pounds, but I didn’t ever reach a goal or get healthy and none of the things I tried were sustainable.
Whether it is the wraps, the colored containers, fat blocker pills, counting calories (yes, I include this in gimmicks an things that don’t work), magic shakes or whatever – please people, I beg you to stop looking for the magic answer. If you are an obese person, I can confidently say, you are likely addicted to carbs and sugar, and you are insulin resistant, and the only answer for you is to STOP EATING CARBS AND SUGAR. They are slowly killing you. Just like the alcoholic or drug addict, there is no such thing as moderation, there is only quitting.
When I started this ketogenic diet and lifestyle, it took me approximately four days for the physical cravings to subside. For four days I needed to be strong and not cave to the cravings. I ate eggs, bacon, meat, cheese, and veggies and once the cravings for carbs and sugar subsided I lost my appetite for awhile, but it eventually returned.
The physical cravings for carbs and sugar have never returned, but the head cravings – wow – they were there and disguised as hunger. To successfully change over to the LCHF/Ketogenic way of living, you must get your mind right. I can’t say it enough. You cannot sit around fantasizing about the food that made you obese and unhealthy to begin with. Our thoughts eventually lead to our actions and if you constantly think about cheesecake, it won’t be long before you are hunkered down in a dark corner taking down a cheesecake in one sitting. (Ha- not that I have ever done that mind you. Right?) Alright, I have done that, but not in the last 15 months and you know why I haven’t caved? Because I don’t fantasize about food and I now have a more healthy and normal view of food. I view food strictly as FUEL – it is not entertainment, it is not a reward and it isn’t for comfort. Fuel. Food is fuel.
If what you have tried a dozen times before, still hasn’t worked, why are you still doing it? Are you telling yourself you just don’t have enough will power? Please stop talking mean about you, to you. Will power only works once you get the drugs out of your system, and by drugs, in this case, I mean carbs and sugar. Talk kindly to yourself, be positive, tell yourself you can do it. I promise once you get past the physical cravings, then you can call on will power and utilize a positive thinking system, prayer and/or any combination thereof that works for you!
Don’t think, “I can’t live without my carbs.” Think, “If I want to live, I will not indulge in carbs.” For many people (for me it was) this is a matter of life or death. Do you want to live? Do you want to do things you have never done before? Do you want to see your children or grandchildren grow up? Do you want to walk from the car to the entrance of the store without getting winded? If so, then now is the time. It is never too late to change the way you do things, so instead of doing the same old tired method, again, or a new version. Try the Ketogenic route.
