I wanted to share something I have been thinking about for a while now. I have had such success with the Ketogenic life that I can’t help but ask questions when I see posts online like, “I have been doing this woe (way of eating) and haven’t lost a single pound!”
While keto might not work for some people, I am skeptical when it comes to these kinds of comments. I can say without a doubt that during my years of obesity that it wasn’t just the wrong foods that were making me obese it was the quantity too – quantity of very bad, toxic, processed foods.
For those of you who feel like you are following the plan and it just isn’t working, I have this question: Are you eating to satisfaction? Full or beyond full to feeling stuffed? I submit to you that if you eat until you are past full or stuffed you are engaging in behavior that could set you back. Break that habit, eat until satisfaction AND only eat when you are hungry. If you eat three meals a day and any of those meals are eaten because it is meal time and not because your body needs fuel then that could be holding you back.
We get fat by eating the wrong foods and eating too much of the wrong foods. Any obese person I hear make the comment, “I really don’t eat that much,” is deceiving themselves. If you really tracked what you consumed you would realize you eat too much. I know what I used to eat and it is embarrassing. I took down a whole large pizza BY MYSELF more than once. I have eaten half a cheesecake in one sitting. I know that the quantity was just as much a problem as the food choices.
I am not saying calories matter or don’t matter. What I am saying is that if you don’t overeat you don’t need to concern yourself with calories. Overeating vegetables can mean going over your carb threshold, which for many can lead to stalling/no loss. Do not consume so much food that you feel past full. If you are slightly uncomfortable to downright uncomfortable after eating, you overate and may have gone over the amount of carbs you are allowed.
Upon beginning eating Keto it is important to not only eat the right foods, but also to not over eat. Weigh and measure your food so that you know for sure what your carbs are! Overeating is detrimental to your success and you will never learn to read your body and know true hunger if you do that.
BOTTOM LINE: Don’t eat until you are past full or beyond and only eat if you are hungry. Just because there’s food in front of you doesn’t mean you have to eat it. That may change your results. Break all the bad habits, don’t just change your food.
