I know I say this a lot, but the only way to succeed in keto for life is to eat the right foods, but the number one thing you have to do is GET YOUR MIND RIGHT.
As long as you think that someday you will be “normal” and that you can regularly eat crap carbs in moderation, you will eventually fail.
If you’re like me, you have to accept that there is no moderation when it comes to carbage.
You are fooling yourself if you think you will lose the body fat and then be able to “indulge” or “cheat” now and then.
Maybe for a while, because you will be fat adapted, it may be a slower road. But eventually you will veer completely off the road and crash and burn in carb hell and then bye-bye fat adaption, hello weight gain, sickness, and misery.
I know that sounds pretty dramatic, but it is the truth. Looking for comfort from crap food doesn’t help anything. So why risk it?
It takes daily, if not hourly, on purpose focus in re-training your brain to acquire the right thoughts about food and what it should mean (HINT: It’s fuel…nothing else). Sugar is not your friend.
Sugar is like the abusive spouse we just can’t seem to get away from because “we love them.” They don’t do anything for us except slowly kill us, make us miserable, make us feel guilty, but, yet, we love them.
Ask yourself next time you think you want that slice of cake or bag of chips:
“Will this make me feel better or worse?”
“Is this going to fix my problems or add to them?”
“Will this get me closer to my goal or drive me farther away?”
“Is this going to heal me of disease or feed my disease?”
“What do I really need right now?”
Do you want to continue the roller coaster of weight loss and gain? Then keep doing what you have always done. Go on a diet and plan to be normal when that diet ends. That will keep you on the roller coaster.
Or do you want permanent change?
Do you want to be a healthy weight and have one clothing size that fills your closet? Do you want to know that when you walk in your closet anything you pull off a hanger is going to go on and fit?
Do you want to maintain a stable weight for the rest of your life?
Do you want to feel good and almost never get ill?
Do you want to be free of medications?
Do you want to participate in your life and not be an observer from the sidelines? (Oh how much I missed out on because I was too fat and fatigued to join in.)
Write down your goals. Read them daily. The Bible says that where there is no vision, the people will perish. I have found that to be true. All the times in my life that I have just talked and talked and not taken real action or been serious, I only went in circles or up and down on the roller coaster- I was perishing. When I got serious, I wrote down what I wanted and I sought out inspiration and I looked at it DAILY and often more than once a day. Then change happened. It takes action to change your situation. And you have to get your mind right to take the right action.
Get your mind right. When you decide what you want, the “how to do it” will emerge. When you really want change, you will make a way and find a way.
And you will be unstoppable.
