Before you get to the rest of the article, let me just make sure you understand that this is written and addressed to the people who crave sugar all the time. Sugar addiction isn’t something that affects everyone, but if it affects you, then you should pay attention.
If it doesn’t affect you, read it anyway, because, chances are, you know someone who is addicted to sugar.
Why do you think we are always saying things like, “One bite won’t hurt,” “One meal isn’t going to kill you,” “How much damage can one sip do?” or, “Nobody will care if I eat this one piece.”?
These are the same things addicts say. Ask psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors, and addicts. Addicts find reasons to justify partaking of their drug of choice, and all the things we tell ourselves to justify eating non keto foods align with that same kind of addictive behaviour.
This applies to things we don’t typically think of as sugar as well. Carbohydrates that aren’t directly sugar are indirectly sugar. They are turned into sugars by our body, are pumped into our blood stream and are fed to our brain and muscles in ways that make our bodies behave exactly as if we fed it processed sugar.
Next time you see a pile of potatoes, a packet of chips, crisps, fried breaded things, ice-cream, cake or other sweet, carby garbage remember:
You are an addict and this is your addiction.
It is poison.
It will kill you.
Your body will make small particle LDL-cholesterol and deposit plaque in your arteries leading to heart disease. You will have an insulin crash that will endanger your brain, possibly leading to brain damage and dementia. This insulin crash will also endanger your heart, because of the work it must do to support your body through the preceding high. Your joints will suffer from increased inflammation, and your body will confuse the fat-fuel vs carb-fuel process, kick you out of fat burning mode back into carb burning mode, triggering cravings and the feeling of being constantly hungry.
You are an addict.
Don’t think that keto is a short term one-off fix-it solution, because it isn’t. It is a lifestyle habit that keeps you well, healed and whole so you can fully participate in all of life.
