I have noticed that Keto/LCHF is definitely getting more exposure. The problem with that is that means more and more people are going to misunderstand it and not approach it correctly.
Listen, Keto/LCHF is not a diet. It isn’t something you do for the short term and it isn’t just for weight loss. It is a lifestyle change and something you commit to for a lifetime of good health and the weight loss is a fabulous side benefit.
As a member of many Keto/LCHF forums online it disturbs me to see that so many people don’t understand this. They treat it as if it is a diet and they try to “do it” like they have done every other diet – by counting calories and trying to lose weight quickly for an event coming up. I understand that calorie counting is very controversial among the LCHF community and some people are just downright vicious about it, but counting calories is absolutely not required to be successful at this way of eating.
Look, if you want to do a calorie counting diet and push calorie counting on people, don’t do it amongst the Keto/LCHF community. I am telling you, I haven’t and don’t count calories following this way of life and I tell people not to. That makes some people very, very angry. I am telling you, if you focus on counting carbs and you weigh and measure your portions, the calories (if they truly matter) will work themselves out.
If you view Keto/LCHF as a quick fix for weight loss, then it will be like every other diet you have tried because the minute you go back to eating what made you fat in the first place, you will gain the weight back and all your health ailments will return. You must decide what you want. Lifelong health and a new body? Or do you just want to be thin for a time and then go back to eating “food” that is unhealthy, so you can have the temporary satisfaction of experiencing what you think tastes good?
The best way to go at this way of eating is to first decide this is a NEW LIFESTYLE, that you can and will live your life without carbs. Your body does NOT need carbohydrates or sugar. You can live successfully and healthily without them. There are no diseases caused by a carb deficiency. They are in fact TOXIC to the human body!
You can actually lower your risk of diabetes, heart disease, obesity, Alzheimer’s epilepsy, and a host of other ailments by eliminating sugar and grains from your menu.
I have permanently shed 92 pounds and eliminated the following from my life:
- High blood pressure
- Type 2 Diabetes symptoms
- Sleep Apnea
- Acid reflux
- Constant bloat and gas
- Colds (so far not ONE in 16 months – which is a miracle)
- Body aches (the only body pains I experience now are from working out)
- Ashtma/overexertion – basically I can BREATHE
I realize, I’m most likely preaching to the choir. But if I can change the mind of even one person reading this, I’ll consider it a success. Making a healthy change is powerful, and it has affected me powerfully. That’s why I’m so passionate about having the right mindset, and realizing that a healthy life is a lifetime responsibility.
I used to have the wrong mindset, but now I don’t. Now I know the truth and I can’t help but share it. I have a hard time understanding the old me, how I constantly sought the short-term solution, and never realized the reality of focusing on the long-term, healthy lifestyle.
I cannot return to my previous ways. Why would I? I feel better and look better than I ever have, why on earth would I want to return to the things that almost killed me and made me feel horrible about myself?
I wouldn’t. I won’t. And neither should you.
