Most of us have been there. I was addicted to sugar and carbs for several years. Sugar and carbs had a seductive hold on me, and it was an abuseive relationship; I desired them, succumbed time and again and in return, despite their blissful promises, they gave me type 2 diabetes and a fatty liver.
When I realized that sugar and carbs made me sick, I stopped caring how good they tasted. Their power over me had to be stopped, so I broke up with them before they broke me.
How did I break their hold on me? Knowledge! Knowledge is a great tool of empowerment. I read several blogs and books, watched many videos, and strengthened my conviction in the knowledge that carbs are the abusers I believed them to be.
- They lie.
- They manipulate.
- They are taskmasters.
They tell you that you need them. They tell you that you won’t be happy without them. Wrong! You are stronger than them. You do not need them. Do not listen to them. Eating carbs only makes you want more carbs. It’s a vicious cycle, and only you have the power to make it stop. Just say no to carbage!
Carbs stimulate your ghrelin hormone, making you literally feel hungrier, and want more carbs. Carbs turn into glucose, and provide a quick energy boost that dies down into a low two hours later, and your body then craves more carbs. It’s a vicious cycle, and only you have the power to make it stop. Just say no to carbage!
Once you give in to them, they become the boss of you. They manipulate your hormones to make you feel hungrier, and delay your fullness signals. They increase your insulin, blocking your body’s ability to burn fat for energy, forcing your body to search for sugar to burn, causing more and more sugar and carb cravings. Vicious cycle. Stop it. Just say no to carbage!
So can you break the cycle? If you believe you can, then you can. If you believe you cannot, well, keep reading blogs and books and watching videos until it clicks. We can give you the tools you need to defeat the addiction, but you must do the defeating. We cannot slay the dragon for you.
Arm yourself and ride out.
You can do this!
