A Ketogenic Lifestyle is about more than just the food. In fact it should be about much more than food. Food should begin to be the last thing on our mind, which for some of us is a surprising change to the way we have experienced life eating a Standard Western Diet.
There are three core things which really need to be part of the Ketogenic Lifestyle, other than food. They are the foundation of the process wherein we begin taking our lives from mental and emotional slavery to food, and give us the grounding and practice to open ourselves to life in all its fullness.
- Understanding The Science
- Being An Adult
Science has long been the realm of professional people. We’ve been fed pseudo-science; it is hypnotically fed to us over our televisions, in advertising, from billboards, from our doctors and other health professionals (also some people who aren’t health professionals).
It’s really, really, important that everyone reads up on the science for themselves.
Keto science is written in different forms, pure science for those of us who love to read the humongous words, and for those of us who prefer the readers digest condensed/paraphrased version, there’s a bunch of that too. It’s still science, it just takes less time to read.
Read it. Understand how your body was made to work. Knowledge is powerful. It is a sword against doubt and fear-mongering. This science is years of practitioners research and practice, biology and biochemistry, unpaid, unsponsored by big-pharma or big-grain, big-sugar, big-chem companies.
You will end up better equipped than most of humanity, and it will give you a solid foundation, understanding why and how a Ketogenic Lifestyle makes such a big impact for individuals, small communities and eventually the Global Community.

There is only one person who can do this Keto thing. You. You can do it for you.
If we engage our adultness, put on our big-girl-or-big-boy-pants (depending) and take the time in the beginning to support ourselves properly, without making any excuses, then our bodies will make the switch from the carb-fuel process to the fat-fuel process and it will pretty much run by itself.
The important thing is to leave any childish behaviour behind. Keto works. There’s no reason to be afraid it won’t, it all comes down to the decisions we make, and whether we are listening to our bodies properly.
It takes practice and you will find the Ketogenic Success Facebook Group full of positive reinforcers and cheerleaders of adulting.
Once you make the decision to do this, it is nobody elses’ business or problem. Your power resides with you. It always has, and it always will. Do not allow another person or entity to take it away from you, no matter whether they are a friend, a relative, a health professional or an anonymous corporation.
Do your own research, ask your own questions, back your decision, back yourself. You are worth your own support.
This does not mean we all need to go around ninja-kicking people who give us jip, but instead realising that another person’s behaviour does not define who we are, OUR behaviour defines who we are, and everybody needs to take responsibility for their own choices, their own behaviours.
Feedback is helpful, but it needs to be truth, not opinion.
It’s no secret that a Ketogenic Lifestyle is about learning to take the focus off food as a driving force, and put it back in it’s place as fuel for who we really are.
A whole great big part of our life is being ‘miraculously’ healed by the things that we are (and are not) fueling our bodies with, and because of this, there will be a lot of space open up in our lives.
We have an amazing opportunity to be able to do some of the things for ourselves which may have been neglected for years. Choosing to address these kinds of things is called self-care.
As our bodies and our brains heal, I’d like to encourage all of us to take the time to look in the mirror of truth. Are there things you have been carrying which you really don’t need to carry? Things which weigh heavily on you, burden you, constrict or tie you in unhealthy ways? Are there parts of who you are which you’d like to develop, to grow, to explore, talents and strengths you haven’t used for a while?
These things may be anything from a door we need to close, a burden we need lifted, an issue resolved, a dangerous situation firmly dealt with. There may be a new skill to pursue, an old talent or something you loved to do waiting for you to reawaken.
Some of us have had significant issues which food has covered, these need to be addressed so we can live the fullness of who we are. Nobody deserves to live with things which trip them up or hold them back. You are worth more.
It is wise to begin to process these neglected areas in our lives and make a plan for addressing them. Find a therapist, a life-coach, a Keto-coach, a gym for heavy lifting, enrol in adult education, join a choir, a writing group, an art class, dance lessons!
Dream away and most importantly, follow through and deal with it.
The Ketogenic Lifestyle goes far beyond food. It is about learning to reshape our lives so we are making informed decisions, asking questions and making choices based on our own research not on popular opinion, returning our lifestyles and bodies to healthy routines which provide a future for millions (and billions) of people rather than a select few.
You are the reason this works. Keto On.
